International Confusing Council

In my last post I wrote about the ICC coming to a compromise on technology, well short of what it should of been.  Unfortunately, that wasn't the only dumb thing they did.

Well, it was half good.

The ICC agreed to expand the World Cup back to 14 teams, after planning to drop it to just the 10 full members.  Awesome.  Great job ICC.  They messed up, and they fixed it.  To keep the biggest event in the sport to just the 10 countries where it already has a big foothold isn't a great idea.

I totally get that 2007 was a bit of a sham, and they had good intentions in keeping the number of games to a minimum, so it doesn't go on too long.  But I don't understand why you can't play more than one game a day?  Of the 37 days on which games were played, only 12 had more than one game a day.

If you have that many days with one match going on, of course it going to take forever.

I get that they want the marquee teams being in the tournament as long as possible, for TV purposes.  But this format got the top 8 advancing, so play more match more than one match every day and you have a great tournament.

So good job for fixing that ICC, but why get rid of 4 teams from the Twenty20 tourament.

Being from the United States, if cricket if going to catch on here, it's gonna be T20.  I'm sure it's the same for other countries.

You're really gonna get rid of those possibilities just because you placated the teams for the World Cup.

One of the ICC's jobs is to expand the sport.  For some reason it seems like they don't want to do that.
